Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola Company together with Mac Donalds are the most important companies in U.S. Consume Society. It sells a carbonate soft drink in more than 200 countries and is distributed in stores, restaurants and vending machines. It was invented by John Pemberton in Atlanta Columbus in the year 1885. He was a farmaceutic that create a cocawine with the name of Pemberton French Wine Coca. In 1886 the alcohol was prohibited in Atlanta so Pemberton sell his drink as a non-alcohol medicine with soda that helps diseases such as dyspepsia, headache and impotence.

As an adiction to morphine Pemberton sold his property rights to Asa Griggs Candler how made the Coca-Cola company. In 1894 the product was bottled for the first time making in Chattanooga TN the first Coca-Cola Bottling Company.

Many years after, in 1985 The New Coke was launch to market. This product caused a balcklash in population because people prefered the new flavors of coke. The marketing manage was well done changing the image and all the publicity. Nowadays the company of Coca Cola has launch other products of Coca-Cola variating the flavors making lime coca cola, vainilla, coffee and cherry.

This mark is one of the most influential in the United States Consumer Society. The consumption of Coca Cola has become so important in the United States causing that in more that 200 countries Coca Cola is consumed. This shows how Coca Cola in an imperialist way has conquered the United States Society.

What is Consumerism?

Consumerism is a high index of consumption of goods and services forming the economy of a society. In this consumerist society the people find their happiness in the cuantity of materials and services that can consume.


Since the Ancient Egypt the humanity has had consumerist tendencies consuming materials extra from their necessary measures for living. At the same time simple living and anti consumerist movements have make opposition to this system.

There are critics in favor and against the consumerism. Usually the points in favor are from an economic view while the opinions against are from a sociologic view.

Against the consumerism is said that this system makes people been identify by products or services that they consume damaging the culture of a country and introducing a market or a consumer culture. People begin to make relationships other individuals by thinking they are like minded according to the product that they have in common. This does not aloud the healthy relations and creates social control in people. Also the objective of the marketers is making that people buying a good or a product will not completely be satisfy. This makes people by consuming and consuming trying to find the happiness that will never get.

Other critics against the consumerism is that in consumer society the enviorment is usually is degree and climate changes appear. In this societies the resources are high rate changed and used.
In favor of the consumerism is said that this system aloud people to be self independent and free permiting people consume in what they want to consume. It is also said that in a consumer society the economy is very strong and difficulty it will get down.
